to understand and influence policy and engage the policy making process.
Cultural Competency
Acceptance and recognition of diverse cultures and individuals is often the elephant in the room that individuals, organizations, institutions and communities do not engage directly and honestly. Too often “we” are unwilling or unable to acknowledge that diversity is all around us. Most often we only associate with those who look, act, think and talk like we do.
The Public Policy Project has worked in large and small contexts to help organizations understand the dynamics of cultural competency and strategically plan for and/or implement relevant services to effectively address issues that impact diverse communities and constituencies.
Race and Culture Dialogues
Race remains one of America’s most difficult challenges. The Public Policy Project knows the value of honest dialogue about issues of race and cultural values.
The founding partners of the PPP as black and white males understand both the need and value of constructive dialogue about the day-to-day issues of community acceptance and participation. We recognize it as a mix of complex dynamics of race, sex, class and religious affiliation. These dialogues invite individuals to be open and truthful about their experience.
We work with the individuals who make up organizations and institutions to foster the necessary conversation towards eradicating the crippling effects of racism, prejudice or assumed values and to improve communication, respect and diversity in workplace and community life.
Organizational Assessment and Planning
The Public Policy Project helps organizations understand the underlying issues of race, equity and access that frame organizational culture. We work to build a truly diverse and respectful workplace that includes recruitment, training and retention of culturally diverse staff, leadership and board.
